Folklore Ensemble “Tradition” from Trstenik, central Serbia region, was founded in 1998 to preserve traditional songs, dances and customs of Serbia and other nations in the region. Tradition has about 140 members, in four age groups:
– Younger children’s ensemble, 5–8 years,
– older children’s ensemble, 9–13 years,
– preparatory ensemble and
– the first ensemble.
The largest is the folklore section, and folk singers group and orchestra are working also with great success. The orchestra supports all the activities of the ensemble.
Folklore Ensemble Grozd is formed in 2000 in Aleksandrovac, 30 km south of Trstenik. It has about 120 members. Since the establishment its activities are jointly implemented with the folklore ensemble Tradition. Combined folklore ensemble Tradicija/Grozd is active participants to folklore festivals in Serbia and Europe making cultural connections with various folklore groups. Since 2000, ensemble took part in festivals in Germany, Swiss, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Turkey and Greece.
Program is made of dances from different ethnological areas of Serbia and with authentic costumes and music. Director and choreographer of the ensembles is Dragan Markovic. Trstenik is situated 200 km south of capital Belgrade, in the valley of the river Zapadna Morava (West Morava). It has about 16,500 residents. Trstenik is known for its archeological sites from the Neolithic period, industry of hydraulics and pneumatics and the company “Prvapetoletka” and agriculture. There is a small sport airport in Trstenik and a lot of historical monuments. Aleksandrovac is located 30 km from Trstenik. Has about 10,000 inhabitants and lies on the gentle slopes of mount Kopaonik. It is known for producing the highest quality grapes and wines.
