Dear Residents of Sárvár, Honoured Guests,

It is with joy and pride that I welcome you to the 44th International Folklore Days and City Festival.

These days are amongst the most wonderful traditions in the life of our town, a time when Sárvár becomes a meeting place of cultures and a large, shared home for all once again. This year marks the forty-fourth occasion that we gather to celebrate everything that unites us: the joy of music and dance, the strength of community, and the respect for our traditions.

The Sárvár International Folklore Days has, for over four decades, been one of Hungary’s most prestigious folk events. It faithfully reflects the openness and hospitality of our town. Folk dance groups from across Europe and remote points of the world bring with them the finest treasures of their national cultures. The melodies echoing through the historic walls of Nádasdy Castle and the swirling dancers create a unique atmosphere that builds bridges between nations and individuals as well. This festival is about friendship, diversity, and the understanding and mutual respect we can achieve through the shared language of dance.

In the past decade, the Folklore Days has evolved into a City Festival, broadening our reach to welcome an even wider audience. In addition to folk music and dance enthusiasts, we invite those who enjoy lighter musical genres, as our programme includes concerts, family events, and various entertaining performances. Our goal is to offer something for all age groups — from children and young people to the elderly — so that together we can enjoy Sárvár’s most significant celebration of the year. The craft fair, along with delicious food and drinks, further enrich the experience.

As part of the festival, we also pay fitting tribute to King Saint Stephen, the founder of the Hungarian state, and celebrate the Feast of the New Bread, a powerful symbol of tradition and communal unity. These moments remind us of our roots and the values that make Sárvár strong and vibrant.

I wish that the 44th International Folklore Days and City Festival bring unforgettable experiences, joyful moments, and new friendships to everyone.
