The Folklore Ensemble Zemlin was founded in 1957 in Mihalovce-town, the east of Slovakia. As one of the best Slovakian folk dance groups, it represents the traditional culture of Slovakia with the focus on the Zemplín region.
The total number of the members of the group is 88 young people between the ages of 16 to 25. The ensemble was awarded many awards, prizes, diplomas and medals. Since its foundation the artistic collective has carried out more than 2.900 public performances in Slovakia as well as 1.350 performances abroad, in 27 countries, on 5 continents for instance in Canada, USA, China, Thailand etc.
Slovakian folklore is characterised by temperament, dynamism and diversity. Zemplin is a long-time preserver of traditional folklore in Slovakia. During its 62 years of existence, the group has created and presented about 40 programmes with different themes. Each program of the ensemble consists of traditional dances from eastern and central Slovakia. Amongst the dances and songs that they bring to Sárvár we can find compilations, herdsman’s dances and songs as well as the dances of different villages.
