Awarded the Hungarian Heritage Prize, Pál István Szalonna and His Band were brought together by their shared love for the folk music traditions of the Carpathian Basin. They have chosen to study, teach, and share this rich cultural world.

Their music is a joyful celebration that brings the traditional culture of Hungary and its coexisting ethnic communities closer to people of all ages. Their repertoire includes heart-wrenching slow melodies, virtuosic men’s dances (legényes), and the unique world of the csárdás.
Their instruments range from the flutes and bagpipes of peasant heritage to the powerful sound of stringed instruments, and the cimbalom and tárogató – both recognised as Hungarikum. And above all, their music is illuminated by the most beautiful instrument of all: the human voice.
