Kimon of Xylotymbou dance group was established in the winter 1975 with the purpose of saving maintaining and spreading our tradition and cultural inheritance.

Today is 150 dancers present dance from all over Greece and give performance in all free area of Cyprus. Since 1993, every summer the group travels to Greece for performance in many Greek towns (Naousa – Edessa, Kavala, Igoumenitsa, Kozani – Aridea, Yianitsa, Chalkidiki, Katerine, Ioannina, Serres, Alexantroupoli, Hydra, Poros, Peireas, Kreta, Salonika, Athens, Verria, Santorine and others). The group also traveled to Mexico 1997, to Denmark and Portugal 1998, to Italy in 2003, to France 2007, to Czech Republic 2007, to Scotland 2014, to Russia and Romania 2016.

Kimon dance group is an establishing member of the international Confederation of Folklore Festivals Organization (C.I.O.F.F). It is also a member of the Cyprus committee of Folk Culture (I.O.V.). It is worth mentioning that “KIMON” has won first prize during the Pancyprian Competition for folklore dancing and costumes. Also on 2007 the group won the bronze metal during dancing competition in Dijon in France. The group has been on the Cyprus and Greek television several times, in close cooperation with the musical scheme “Mesogeios”; maintaining at the same time its own band with traditional players of musical instruments.

The main events organized by the group itself are the Greek dance night, which is held every April, and the dance Festival with the participation of local and foreign dance groups, which is held in last week of July. Finally, it should be said that “KIMON” dance group has been awarded the Gold Medal of St. Raphae’s Monastery at Xylotymbou for its contribution to the cultural life of the community of Xylotymbou.
