From Uherske Hradiste, Sárvár’s twin town comes the Cifra folklore group to the International Folklore Days. The group was founded in 2000 in the heart of Moravian Slocácko and they bring the region’s folklore treasures and traditions.

At the moment, the group has 14 dance pairs, who, together with their choreographer, Lenka Kravackova aim to preserve and rejuvenate the region’s rich and unique traditions. Cifra has taken part in various festivals and folklore events both home and abroad. So far, the group has been given the chance to perform in many countries such as France, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, to name a few. It gives regular feature performances and rightly ranks among the top folklore groups of the Uherske Hradiste region. Searching for new inspiration, Cifra seeks to discover folk songs and dances even across the borders for instance the neighbouring country, Slovakia.

The group’s repertoire varies, covering both rotating and figure dances from their region as well as dynamic and highly elaborated dances from Slovakia. Their most engaging dances include czardas, dances form Saris, Zbojna, Myjava and Kubra together with those from Stare Mesto, Hluk, Borsice, and Luhacovske Zalesi. Surprisingly the ensemble’s repertoire also includes dances form the era of Charleston, rock and roll, and twist which have changed in the course of time – the same way people with their lives and destinies did.
